Man vet aldrig

Hush I think it might be thawing.

Yesterday when I took the car down the track that leads to our house,
it felt as though I was going down a tobogan run.

The track runs down hill and has snow walls either side, steeper than the ones seen here.

I would have liked to have gone faster so that it felt more like a tobogan run,
but remembering that I had spilled
both myself and Mike off the snowscooter a couple of weeks ago,
I thought better of it.

Besides the hounds were in the back
and I don't think they would have appreciated slewing from side to side.

But the very next day, it seemed as though the thaw had properly set in.
There are now patches in the tobogan run where the gravel shows through.
The snow walls are begining to slump down into themselves.

Icicles hang from all the roofs.
Making pretty patterns.

This is part of how the roof was looking on 1st March.
Most of this snow has fallen off the roof now.
It makes a loud noise as it falls off.

Usually at night.

I'm on my own at the moment while Mike is away.
So it's a bit of a shock when it happens,
until I realise what it is.

There was a particularly loud crash of snow falling off the roof a few nights ago.
Paddy was all alert ready to bark at whatever was making the noise.
That's as far as he will go.
Rufus and Jewel just carried on sleeping, unperturbed.

But there's been a few false thaws already.
Usually the following day it's snowed all day.
So much
that I've had to wait for the snowplough to come before I could take the car out.
So,
man vet aldrig.
You never know.

I am glad Spring is headed your way! I am looking forward to see how it progresses in your country.

What does "man vet aldrig" mean?

Hi Sue,
Yes it will be good to see spring here.
Man vet aldrig means, you never know.

Such unbelievable amounts of snow. I can imagine it would be alarming to hear it fall during the night from the roof. I hope you have a great week and that the thaw continues!

And I thought it was cold here in Italy! What part of Sweden are you in? I was talking to a friend in Gavle yesterday and she didnt mention snow...but maybe because it is so normal it is not worth mentioning?

Hi Lynne,
Wow!, what great photos. Looks like your house has big slabs of white icing on top :) Just beautiful! I like the rippley patterns on the underside of the snow.

Hi Lynne,
I hope the thaw continues. It's like early summer here at the moment but with the weather, as you say, you never know!
I love those photos of the curl of snow coming off the roof.
Be careful in your car!
Sarah :)

Sigh.... I do so enjoy your snowy photos! I look forward to seeing Sweden in it's summer attire.. I'm sure it's just as stunning.

Thanks Mildred, hope your week turns out good too.

Hi Charlie, maybe the Swedes don't think it worth mentioning, though the snow line can vary quite a bit. Also we are further north than Gavle.

Hi Kathleen, it's getting easier to stay warm here now thanks.

Sandi, it's amazing to see some of the shapes of the snow and icicles. Though the snow is definately going now.

Sarah, I hope the thaw stays now too. And I will be careful in the car.

Teresa, I'm really looking forward to the warmer weather now. It really is very beautiful here.

Hurray for the thaw! Beautiful photos, Lynne. Love the ones with the snow sliding part way off the roof. I'm way behind reading blogs. Doing a little catching up today. :)

Hi Lynne,
Finally got to post a comment!
Lovely photos as usual. The new camera is working well. The daffodils here in Cumbria are long gone. The bluebells are appearing and trees are full of blossom. We have been watching two baby robins and their parents which have spent most of the day on and around our patio.
